Joel R. ‘Jody’ Price
Joel R. “Jody” Price, 55, of Beckley, died April 5, 2010, following injuries sustained at Performance Coal’s Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, W.Va.
Born December 1, 1954, in Beckley, to the late Thornton E. Price and to Elizabeth A Price-West of Beckley.
Joel was a coal miner, served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was a member of Saint John United Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thornton E. Price; one brother, Robert Jean Price; one sister, Odessa M. Willis; stepson, Malcolm L. Johnson; mother-in-law, Margaret D. Moore; brother-in-law, James Harris.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Dorean D. Price of Beckley; stepsons, John Jones of Oak Hill, Alan Johnson of Beckley, Matt Jones of Mt. Hope; brothers, Thorton E. Price Jr. of Beckley, George E. Price, of Washington, D.C., John L. (Gwen) Price of Centerville, Va., Richard D. Price of Bluefield, W.Va., Garland D. (Grace) Price of Upper Marlboro, Md., Kenneth G. (Bernetta) Price of Beckley, Jeffery A. (Lois) Price of Fredrick, Md.; sisters, Argyle L.(Marvin) of Detoit, Mich., Rovena (William) Ward of Brockton, Mass., Patrelia A. Lewis of Canton, Mich.; grandchildren, Peyton Jones, Myron Johnson, Jasmine Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Malcolm Johnson, Amiya Johnson, and Trenton Jones; father-in-law, Cleo H. Moore Sr. of Beckley; brothers-in-law, Cleo H. Moore, David (Linda) Moore, all of Beckley, Curtis D. (Linda) Moore of Dalton, Ga., Kevin (Beverly) Moore and John (Ann) Moore of Beckley; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Walter) Hughes, Alice G. Harris and Lynn M. (William) Robinson of Beckley, and Kay F. (Micheal) Jones of Cheaspeake, Va., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha S., Beckley, with Bishop Fred T. Simms and Elder David L. Moore Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church.
